The Heart Behind Doulos
The greek word "doulos" translates to servant or slave. There can be no greater tribute to a believer than to be known as God’s obedient, humble, and loyal servant. Look to Jesus. He came not to be served but to serve others. There is no greater demonstration of this truth than Jesus humbling himself, leaving Heaven to come to earth in the form of a human, and being fully obedient to God, even when it caused his death on a cross — for the joy set before Him! That joy is real and is available for us too!
Friends, we are SET FREE TO SERVE our God with a joyful heart, free from the chains that hold us captive. He delights in us! He calls us sons & daughters! When I look at Jesus, I am so moved by His love, so moved by His grace, so moved by what He did for us, that I can’t contain it to myself. So, through this brand I am choosing to shed His light in hopes that it may spark a conversation about the joy found in our sweet Jesus.
May we learn to prize this title above all others in the world! May we willfully take upon ourselves the title and conduct of “slave” and join the ranks of those like James who were honored not only for who they were, but for whom they served— the living God!
